Teaching the kids to speak
Lately, when I talk to Wendy, I feel as if I'm talking to an alien learning English. She breaks down sentences or words and adds a question mark after them. For instance, I say to her, "Look, Wendy, there's an airplane." And, she replys with, "Air? Plane?" Or, "Wendy, eat your scrambled eggs." "Scrambled? Eggs?". *sigh* The terrible 2s and 3s has taken an unforseen turn, and new buttons have been discovered on mommy and daddy to be pushed. Sometimes it's frustrating and we just want to say, "Yes, Wendy, scarmbled eggs. You know what they are. You've eaten them tons of times. Eat them!" But, instead, we end up laughing to ourselves about how she speaks.
Joe on the other hand, is remarkable. He's starting to walk a bit. He takes only three to five unaided steps, then falls forward. We think he'll be walking before his first birthday. We also think he is already beginning to speak. Julie and the daycare administrator both swear they heard Joe say something close to "I love you" (more like "Ah oh oo".) Julie and I both thinks he tries to say, "yes" (which comes out "Eess"). And, when he says, "Buh" sometimes it means book, and other times it means bottle.
